Caza das Vellas Loreto is one of the oldest candle shops in the world. Located in Lisbon's Bairro Alto neighborhood, Caza das Vellas Loreto was established on July 14th 1789 - coinciding with the start of the French Revolution. Over seven generations the family-run business is housed (now in a reduced footprint) in the same building where it was founded. The old-world interior with its wooden counter and candle-filled cases fronts the workshop where the handmade candles are produced. The candles come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and colors, with essential oils being used for the scented versions.
