WHAT WE LOVE
A Modern Makers Craft Fair, highlighting goods, old and new, from a variety of studios and workshops representing a wide range of crafts. Founded in 2014 by interior designer Brad Ford, Field + Supply takes place twice yearly, in the spring and fall, at Hutton Brickyards on the banks of the Hudson River in Kingston, NY.
Field + Supply is a three day event with a diverse local food offering, live music, workshops as well as a wonderful range of handcrafted products and independent brands.
"We’re known as a place to discover modern, elevated craftsmanship."
THE MARKET
Why did you choose the name Field + Supply? It was somewhat of a play on words…the first Field + Supply was taking place on a small field, but I liked the idea of “fielding” the craft culture and “supplying” the best it had to offer.
What is Field + Supply best known for? I think we’re known as a place to discover modern, elevated craftsmanship.
How do you find your makers & vendors? We’ve developed enough of a reputation at this point that a lot of people reach out to us, but we’re also constantly on the hunt for inspiring work from across the country. We discover people through social media as well which is great resource for new talent.
What makes Field + Supply a unique market? I think it’s unique because we’re very strategic about who we ask to participate. Because of that we have a very thoughtful cross section of lifestyle categories, from furniture to fashion to food.
Who are your customers? I think we attract a nice mix of locals from upstate New York as well as a lot of weekenders. We also get quite a large number of people from the city as well as Connecticut.
How has the internet impacted your business? I definitely think it’s helped make people discover both Field + Supply and subsequently our showroom FAIR.

THE SHOPKEEPER
Who inspires you? Hotelier and founder of Bunkhouse Group, Liz Lambert. I think she’s the coolest, but she’s so quiet about it.
What inspires you? I’m still incredibly inspired by nature. I recently became aware of a Japanese practice called Shinrin-yoku which translates to “Forest Bathing”. The idea is that being surrounded by nature, even if it’s just a walk through the woods can be very healing and restorative. I have a house in upstate New York that’s surrounded by trees and a small body of water. It really has opened my mind, increased my creativity and been very calming over the years.
Before I was a shopkeeper, I… was and still am an interior designer.
The hardest lesson learned in starting a business? Spreading yourself too thin.
The best lesson you have learned starting Field + Supply? That if you ask, people will be very generous with their advice and support.

ON THE FUTURE OF RETAIL
"It depends on the type of product. Customers want to see and feel furniture, especially handcrafted pieces. They like seeing all the nuances, the knots in the wood, hearing the stores of how it was made. The internet makes it easier to edit your options down, but it’s best to see this kind of work in person."
