WHAT WE LOVE
McNaughtan's Bookshop & Gallery is Scotland's oldest second-hand and antiquarian bookshop. The shopfront features a unique curved facade and windows framed by ornamental iron railings. Founded in 1957 by Major John and Mrs Marjorie McNaughtan, the bookshop occupies two neighboring low, or basement, shops in an 1825 Grade A listed Edinburgh New Town tenement building. The beautifully curved and unique shopfronts
Today McNaughtan's Bookshop & Gallery is owned by Derek Walker and Anna Fomicheva, who took over the bookstore from Elizabeth Strong who in turn became the proprietor in 1979 on Mrs McNaughtan's retirement.
McNaughtan's is a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association, the oldest trade body in the antiquarian book world, and specializes in the classics, literature, Scottish books, humanities, and Private Press.
The gallery space hosts Typewronger Books, selling new books and secondhand typewriters.
"Established in 1957, McNaughtan's is the oldest second-hand and antiquarian bookshop in Scotland."
