WHAT WE LOVE
S.T. Preston & Son Ship's Chandlery was founded in 1880 by Boston captain Samuel Truman Preston. The chandlery became known as Preston's supplying the local shipyards with everything required for maintaining the vessels that came into Greenport Harbor.
Preston's was taken over in the 1950s by Frank Fagan whose descedants, Peter and Andrew Rowsom continue to own and run the store today. Frank Fagan alonq with his son-in-law, George Rowsom, introduced the mail order side of the business selling marine art, ship models, and brassware to supplement the store's income during the leaner winter months.
Today there are two retail stores, the original Preston's is dedicated to providing boaters equipment, supplies, apparel, and gear. The second store, located in the neighboring building specializes in nautical and coastal decor and gifts.
"Since 1880 Preston's has served the boating community, outfitting every type of craft from rowboats to yachts."
