WHAT WE LOVE

Established in 1997, Red Chair is mainly filled with 17th, 18th and 19th Century French, Belgian and Swedish antiques. Marked by a jauntily hung "red chair" instead of a lettered sign, Red Chair is notable for its wonderful assortment of white ironstone, French linen and silver flatware. The dominant color palette is a cool mix of grays, blues and whites with the patina of original surfaces. There is also a small back garden with a pretty assortment of vintage garden furnishings.

Jocie Sinauer, shopkeeper at Red Chair

THE SHOPKEEPER

Jocelyn Sinauer, known as Jocie, is fascinated by the history of things, and has a curiosity for the provenance of the items she finds. As a child Jocie would dig up treasures in the woods and set up pretend shops with her friends. Raised in a family that appreciated antiques, weekend outings were often spent at auction houses. Her grandmother collected found objects for her work as a collage artist and interior decorator, and taught Jocie to find the beauty in them. This love for vintage and antiques lured Jocie away from her life in the Boston area as an illustrator and graphic designer to open the first Red Chair in in Peterborough, NH. After 14 years in New Hampshire, in 2010 Jocie and her chef husband, David Chicane, moved to Hudson, NY. This antique shopping mecca provided them both with the ideal location to accommodate Jocie’s expanding business and for David to open his Asian influenced restaurant, Food Studio.
