WHAT WE LOVE

Alchemist Gustave Sennelier created an artist's supply shop on the left bank of the Seine in 1887 that has withstood the test of time. Across from the Louvre and steps from L'Ecole des Beaux-Arts, the shop's facade remains the same as it opened in the nineteenth century.

Gustave Sennelier, a chemist, researched the history of pigments and developed a process for making oil paints. He traveled Europe researching the best material to produce the finest paints combining the traditions of the old masters with the innovations of modern chemistry. Sennelier oil paints, water-colors, and pastels are considered amongst the finest in the world, customers including Cézanne, Degas, Picasso, Sonia and Robert Delaunay, and David Hockney are a testament to the quality of the products.
