WHAT WE LOVE
A classic Italian New York City bakery established in 1920 by Nunzio and Jennie Dapolito. The couple's son, Anthony, who was born the same year as Vesuvio opened, ran the family bakery until his death in 2003. The bakery was sold and briefly operated as Birdbath Green Bakery, fortunately maintaining the original facade. In 2020 restaurant consultant, investor and operator, Adam Block, stepped in and restored Vesuvio to its former glory.
Vesuvio has expanded beyond its original storefront opening outposts in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen and Moynihan Train Hall.
Vesuvio's green shopfront and gold-lettered name is much the same as when it opened in 1920 and continues to serve fresh baked Italian pastries, bread loaves, cookies, and soft serve gelato.
