WHAT WE LOVE
An antiquarian bookstore in the heart of Amsterdam founded in 1954 by Hendrik Brinkman. Antiquariaat Brinkman specializes in scholarly works, old and rare books. Originally a secondhand bookshop when Brinkman took it over in 1954, that he transformed into a specialty store in out-of-print academic material. In 1984 Brinkman went into partnership with Frank Rutten who continues the legacy of Brinkman's bookstore.
"Although he sold mainly via paper catalogues, and later the Internet, to customers all over the world, Hendrik Brinkman never considered closing the shop and moving to private premises. He loved social interaction with customers and colleagues, and did not shy away from expressing strong political opinions."
