WHAT WE LOVE
New Yorker by way of Ireland, John Casey, opened his first rubber stamp shop in the West Village in 1979. He has been at his current East Village store and workshop since 2001. The walls of the narrow space are lined with rubber stamps - over 10,000 designs including alphabet letters, animals, insects, floral designs, Victorian illustrations, textures, library plates, and sayings.
All the stamps at Casey Rubber Stamps are handmade using an old-fashioned Vulcanizer machine and an old-school process, made to last from natural rubber glued to maple wood mounts. Known for their custom stamps that are used for logos, wedding invitations, signatures, and more. Anything that fits into 8" x 10.5", though they recommend keeping the stamps within 8" x 6", which is the size of the largest ink pads they sell.
A sign on the door reads, "Closed When Not Open, Open When Not Closed. We Are Child, Dog & Eccentric Friendly".
