WHAT WE LOVE
Every inch of one of London's oldest independent bookshops is stacked with books, both inside and out, creating a beautiful patchwork window display. Hurlingham Books in South West London is a secondhand bookstore boasting two million books and counting, though its limited space means that much of the collection is stored in a nearby warehouse. In the store there is a large selection of fiction, poetry and general interest books whilst the warehouse houses hard back fiction, art, photography, children's books, war, antiquarian books and more.
Founded in 1968 by Ray Cole who still works at the bookshop on a daily basis. Hurlingham Books also provides books to designers, the film and prop industry and leading independent retailers. The bookshop has provided books for many major productions including The Crown , Batman , Superman , Poldark , and Fantastic Beasts . The bookstore also works with clients to build libraries in private residences.
"We like to claim that Hurlingham Books is possibly the oldest independent bookshop in South West London. The owner, Ray Cole was inspired to open the shop in 1968. His love of books, and people means that, to this day, he's still the first to open our doors every morning!"
Opening hours can sometimes be irregular and occasional weekend closings due to football matches.
