WHAT WE LOVE
The oldest bookstore in Tangier, Librairie des Colonnes, was established in 1949 by the Gerofi family. Frequented by notable authors, including Samuel Beckett, Jean Genet, Juan Goytisolo, Tennessee Williams, and Truman Capote, the bookshop quickly became a destination for literary gatherings, book launches, and discussions to foster an exchange of ideas, cultures, arts, and literature.
Today, Librairie des Colonnes, also a publishing house, offers 8,000 titles across four languages - Arabic, French, English, and Spanish. Under the stewardship of Khalid Tamer, Alexis Zavialoff and Mathias Ohrel and Alexandre Sap, Librairie des Colonnes strives to preserve its historic heritage.
Founded in 1949, Librairie des Colonnes is the oldest bookshop in Tangier.
