WHAT WE LOVE

Village Works is a bookshop and gallery featuring books on New York City literature, history and culture as well as art by New York City based artists. Village Works was founded by Joseph Sheridan in 2021, originally on East 3rd Street followed by a move to St. Mark's Place in the illustrious former home of St. Mark's Bookshop.

Village Works is located in a historic building dating to 1889 that was former home of the German American Shooting Society Clubhouse. The name is still evident on the facade today. The East Village at that time was known as Little Germany, a neighborhood that was home to German immigrants during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

"Books and printed matter pertaining to the history, arts, literature and culture of NYC with an emphasis on the Villages."
