What we love

A 100 year old Dutch barge is home to unique bookshop Word on the Water, also known as The London Bookbarge.

About the shop

Every surface of this floating bookshop, both outside and in, are stacked and covered with books. Word on the Water offers both new and second-hand titles. In fine weather the plant filled top deck hosts readings and live music on the roof stage. Inside the barge, a series of cozy rooms are decorated with comfy chairs, vintage typewriters and antique carpets. There is even a wood-burning stove for making tea and adding warmth in colder days.

The barge is a short walk from King’s Cross station (home to Platform 9 3/4 of Harry Potter fame) to its mooring on Regent’s Canal Towpath. Nearby is popular Granary Square and Coal Drop Yards. Coal Drop Yards, converted Victorian brick buildings, now a vibrant retail destination featuring many independent brands and makers, restaurants and galleries.
